Never Enough to Challenge Oneself

So my friend Fred (6time IM) is now into Orienteering Races. I've been following along with his reports and am fascinated! He went with a group of guys into the woods this past Sunday, with a map and a compass, and had to find their way to markers, and then to the finish. Sounded too fun!! So, of course, I bought an Orienteering book (ever the nerd) and will try to learn how to do it. There are nine more events this year. Isn't life funny...I just get the greatest gps watch out there, and now I'll be doing an event that you can only use a compass??? Life is never boring in these parts!!

Well. Keep in mind your new gps is good at finding where you have been but not to find where you are going unless you mean to measure the distance between points. It does kinda sound like fun. I will not beleive you are a nerd. I refuse to beleive it. Supermodel maybe but nerd never.

I love the way you think!

Hey, you have the shirt to prove your nerd status as well. I got mine in the mail as well and my daughters seem to enjoy calling me a trail nerd. I wonder if they will be going to school telling all their friends that their daddy is a nerd.

We have a few orienteering events around here.

I'm lost about 30 per cent of the time, anyway, so I figure I'd NEVER find my way to the finish of an orienteering event!

I bet you'll be GREAT at it.

I did orienteering in the Army (walked with 60lb. packs) - I can imagine it would be fun doing it as a race (minus the packs).
